In Exo Squad, there are two major races, the Humans (our descendants), and the Neo Sapiens (artificially created people). Below is a general overview of the two groups and how they fit into the Exo Squad universe as well as how the other race typically sees them.
Humans
Humans are the most diverse, and largest, group in the solar system. They were the ones that colonized the moons and planets of the outer system as penal colonies, they were the ones that begun terraforming Venus and Mars, and they were the ones that created all the modern technological advancements. Their lot includes senators from the Homeworlds Council, the Pirates of the outer system, and everything in between. There is roughly ten billion humans on Earth, with another billion on Venus and various other locations throughout the Homeworld's territory excluding Mars. There is also an estimated half a million Pirates living beyond the Asteroid Belt.
Many Neo Sapiens resent, if not hate, the Humans. Humans created the Neo Sapiens for be cheap slave labour, and many suffered greatly to feed the golden age of man. The typical view is that Humans are weak, eating too much, lazy to the point of needing to sleep, and are generally a self perpetuating genetic accident. They are highly illogical and can not be trusted. Many Neo Sapiens consider themselves to be superior to humans and the inheritors of the future, with humans themselves either submitting to superior Neo Sapien rule or dying out.
Physical Appearance
Aside from sharing general features, like two arms/legs/eyes, hair, nose, ect. Terrans tend to vary in appearance greatly. Skin tones vary from very pale to very dark, with hair colours ranging from black to pale blond. Eyes are typically blue, green, brown, or grey although red is not unheard of. The variation in physical appearance is compounded by the great variety of dress and hair styles. Despite there effectively being 12 billion or more humans in the solar system, it is virtually unconceivable that any two could look identical. Despite this, the subtleties of variation can be such that the Neo Sapiens, who rely more on Brood marks for identification, could have difficulty differentiating some humans unless they knew them. The humans are typically divided into two groups. Terrans, who live on the homeworlds, and Pirates, who live in the outer system.
Attributes
Humans are decidedly unremarkable in both physical and mental capabilities. While some can, and do, exceed others in some respects, most are decidedly average. Attributes are bought as normal.
Neo Sapiens
Neo Sapiens were created by the Terrans for hard labour on Mars. While they do lack some of the creative juices of their creators, Neo Sapiens are physically stronger, tougher, and larger than some of the largest, toughest, and strongest Terrans in existence. They do not sleep and require minimal amounts of air or food to sustain themselves. While Mars' atmosphere is just thick enough and with just enough oxygen for Terrans, it is more than enough for Neo Sapiens to thrive on. Neo Sapiens are incapable of reproduction and require Brood Chambers to create more of their numbers. To date, there is an estimated 1 billion Neo Sapiens in existence. Neo Sapiens have an incredibly long life span and do not deteriorate with age. The greatest problem, however, is Auto Mutation Syndrome which can be brought on by great amounts of intense physical damage to the body, although such damage is not required for the Syndrome to take effect. Auto Mutation Syndrome is an irreversible condition in which the Neo Sapien's body degenerates into a liquid goo. While recent advances in medical science has allowed victims to live longer than previously, it is considered the greatest fear of the Neo Sapien race as a whole. The syndrome is a side effect of the fact that Neo Sapiens were artificially created and their genetic structure is not quite as stable as in living creatures that evolved naturally.
Many humans view Neo Sapiens as little more than a mass of muscle that can be directed to do any task one wants. They are viewed as not having emotions, lacking all but a basic level of creativity, are rather dumb, and hardly an equal. Their minds just aren't wired that way. Even Terrans who've befriended Neo Sapiens tend to think this way. The truth is quite different. The Neo Sapiens have a level of intelligence that compares to Terrans in most ways. The difference is that a Neo Sapien tends to rely on implanted information and thus cannot change their mind, or life's direction, very easily. This tends to inhibit creativity in the Neo Sapiens as a whole. They also feel many of the same emotions that humans do, they are just subdued and normally buried under logic.
Physical Appearance
Neo Sapiens tend to look alike to Terrans the way Terrans look alike to Neo Sapiens. They have a variety of body shapes, but are typically muscular with no body fat or any hair. Their skin is almost uniformly the same shade of blue with the sole exception of the Brood Mark. Brood Marks consist of a variety of shapes and are either red, green, blue, or a combination. They are created during the cloning process that created the Neo Sapiens in the Brood Chambers and can be used instinctively by the Neo Sapiens to help identify a particular Neo Sapien with but the quickest of glances. All Brood marks are unique to the particular Neo Sapien. Despite the lack of reproductive capability, Neo Sapiens to take of male or female appearances. According to Terran ascetics Neo Sapiens vary from homely to down right ugly in appearance, a side effect of design decisions made by the scientists that created the Neo Sapiens.
Attributes
Neo Sapiens are physically superior to Terrans, but suffer from a lack of imagination and creativity. Build and Fitness gain a +2 bonus, while Appearance gain a -2 penalty and Creativity gains a -1 penalty. These are applied after stats are bought and may move the stats beyond the typical ability range for characters.
